My Journey to Health and Wellness

Welcome!  A little about me and my personal journey.   

 

I'm described as fun, caring, empathetic … and having mad curly hair!  I love music, reading, doing things outside in the fresh air, going to the beach, and spending time with my family and friends.

 

I became a trainer in 1996, and practised yoga on and off until I qualified in 2004 teaching Hatha. I taught this discipline until I moved to Spain 5 years ago.

 

I experienced a personal breakdown from losing my brother which caused me to rebel against everything I had learned as a trainer. I entered a dark period of my life where I became withdrawn and developed an emotional eating disorder. Moving to Spain to be with my family, and starting a new life did help; but I didn’t really resolve all the issues that lay beneath the destructive behaviours.

 

I opened my studio and felt blessed, however I was working all the time. I was working 7 days a week! What finally grounded me, in October 2012, was being diagnosed with Meningitis. With that I took a long, hard look at my life and decided to close my studio. Living with meningitis left me physically and emotionally drained; I could no longer train or do the things I used to do. I was diagnosed with having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and brain fog, both of which are side effects of meningitis.

 

I spent the first few months hiding my symptoms; carrying on or trying to carry on as normal, completely in denial. Denial turned to anger; anger at myself, and at others around me. I knew this was not me! I was feeling very low and unhappy, and I knew I had to change.

 

I began my quest for wellness by researching as much as I could about my symptoms; then finally I unrolled my mat, let go, let be, and just breathed.

 

I have not looked back. Gone is my hard body but it has been replaced by a softer, calmer, happier me.

 

I hope you find this site useful as I continue to enhance my own wellness and that of my family, friends and clients.
